I LOVE the visual image: "doubling-down" ... it's risky at best ... sometimes the payoff is excellent, but more often, you lose twice your bet. In Vegas, I would often see people who would double-down when they were losing to break an unlucky streak and I always thought that seemed desperate. I usually only get into double-down mode when I'm on a winning streak ... taking advantage of being in a state of flow. I’m with you! I am trying to eat more mindfully, exercise more regularly, not spend so much time multitasking and always turning off those little vidscreens in cabs. I tuned one off, found my cabbie had great musical tastes. we talked from midtown to gowanus. more talking to people, less being talked at by things that are anthropomorphic would be nice I feel you, Sunny.
